ELISABETH ZAMARELLI, MS. NEW YORK SENIOR AMERICA 2010 While growing up in Queens, Elisabeth danced with her school group on Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour and did some child modeling with the Walter Thornton Agency. As an adult, she modeled for Ted Brown.

She received her B.S. in elementary education from St. Joseph’s College, her M.S. in special ed from C. W. Post, took a doctoral program in giftedness at Columbia U. and received her Ph.D. in special ed at Cambridge State U. She has worked as a special ed and reading teacher for more than 32 years. Elisabeth is married and has 4 children and 6 grandchildren. A stay at home Mom during her children’s early years, she subsequently returned to school and work. While employed in the school district she choreographed many dances for the musicals performed at the elementary, middle and high schools, and is heavily involved in school-based events. Elisabeth is an auxiliary police officer in Suffolk County and is also a licensed realtor. She currently models for Hampton Models and has done several print and commercial ads including a David Lerner Associates commercial currently airing on TV.

She enjoys dancing, swimming, walking, working out, reading, writing, art and entertaining. She has authored a children’s book, “My Moving Book”. As the parent of a son affected by the German measles virus she is a passionate advocate for those who are challenged, and the subject of mothers of children with life threatening issues became the basis of her dissertation project and will be part of a book she is writing. Future projects include working to become a private education consultant and authoring a book of pageant advice to ladies over 60.

Elisabeth was first runner-up in the 2005 Ms. N.Y. Sr. America Pageant and subsequently placed in the Mrs. N.Y. America Pageant, Beauties of America Pageant, won the 2009 All American Pageant and now proudly wears the crown of 2010 Ms. N. Y. Sr. America.

Our Queen Elisabeth truly embodies the spirit of Ms. New York Senior America with her achievements, varied interests and ongoing aspirations and goals.

GAIL KING, MS. NEW YORK SENIOR AMERICA 2009 Gail King, a Long Island resident, danced as a child with the Antonini Ballet Company and performed at Carnegie Hall. Her lyrical ballet is currently used in a Florida Program for abused single women, promoting and restoring their energy and optimism.

While attending college she studied for a time as an exchange student in Costa Rica. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Dowling College, Gail received her Master’s Degree at Stony Brook University. She taught high school English for 35 years. During her time as teacher and adjunct instructor she was very much involved in a Mentoring Program, presenting a compilation of published works of educators and her own award-winning lesson plans emphasizing cooperative learning and discipline. She presented her cooperative learning techniques to other educational leaders at a New York State conference in Albany. She was inducted into the Academy for Teaching and Learning, and has a SCOPE All Star Teacher Award for her work currently used by schools on Long Island.

Gail has worked as a volunteer in two hospitals. She is an avid fund raiser and model for the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and she does animal rescue work. Having started a second career as an actress and model, she has been an extra on popular TV shows and in feature films that are due to be released in 2009. Gail has been featured on InstantCast.com, a website for actors and models, has appeared in a television commercial and infomercial and recently won her first speaking part in “Love on Ice”.

Gail enjoys babysitting her grandchildren, going to museums, shows and concerts, gardening, reading, writing, decorating, swimming, working out and traveling. She has plans to finish her book on educational practices in the American High School.

HELEN HALPIN McCARNEY Helen, born and raised in Boston, was the fifth of six children. Helen's father directed the church choir and her mother was the soloist. As a very young woman Helen began playing the top local clubs in Boston, rising to headliner at Boston's "number one" club, The latin Quarter. She won "Chance of a Lifetime" (the "American Idol" of that era), where the prizes included a week's engagement at The Palace Theater on Broadway in New York. Her career flourished in New York as a promising young entertainer both in comedy and song. She continued to play upscale clubs like Blue Angel and Bon Soir, working with stars such as Harry Belafonte and Eartha Kitt. At NBC she co-starred all season on the "Saturday Night Review" hosted by Hoagy Carmichael.She appeared in a Broadway review, "Catch A Star" to rave reviews. She continuedd with nightclub engagements at top New York night spots such as Dangerfield's. Helen appeared several times on the Ed Sullivan Show and on the Jack Parr and Kate Smith TV shows. Helen left show busines to raise her family and, when her chidren had grown, she founded Halpin Productions on Long Island. She performed at major restaurants on Long Island such as the Swan Club, Milleridge Inn and The Coral House. Helen and her husband have spent close to 40 summers on Cape Cod where she is still a featured performer.
