CAROL SCHULZ was selected MS. NEW YORK SENIOR AMERICA 2008 at the Ms. New York Senior America annual Pageant in Brentwood, N.Y.
Carol’s career path took her from flight attendant to administrative positions in finance and flight operations
for New York Air. Subsequently, she rose to management of budgets, cost analysis and corporate communications.When the airline management team moved its headquarters to Houston, Texas, Carol began business consulting. She worked with Fortune 500 organizations, addressing business issues of global leadership, growth, competition and service. Carol’s establishment of her own consulting company led to engagements at several colleges, including The New School in New York, Hofstra University and the New York Institute of Technology. She was President of the American Society of Training and Development and keynote speaker at their National conference. In 1995, Carol wrote a book on women’s health issues entitled, “60 Second Menopause Management”. Healthcare organizations quickly responded by requesting that Carol facilitate workshops and seminars for women to educate them about natural alternatives to hormone replacement therapy. Carol is currently writing her second book with a working title of, “Retirement isn’t for Sissies!” A resident of Glen Head, L.I., Carol takes pride in her four children and eight grandchildren. She enjoys the theater and movies, including independent films, playing bridge, belonging to a book club for reading and discussion, gardening, the ocean, swimming, travel, and spending time with her family. Helen, born and raised in Boston, was the fifth of six children. Helen's father directed the church choir
and her mother was the soloist. As a very young woman Helen began playing the top local clubs in Boston,
rising to headliner at Boston's "number one" club, The latin Quarter.
She won "Chance of a Lifetime" (the "American Idol" of that era), where the prizes included a week's engagement at
The Palace Theater on Broadway in New York. Her career flourished in
New York as a promising young entertainer both in comedy and song.
She continued to play upscale clubs like Blue Angel and Bon Soir, working with stars such as
Harry Belafonte and Eartha Kitt. At NBC she co-starred all season on the
"Saturday Night Review" hosted by Hoagy Carmichael.She appeared in a Broadway review, "Catch A Star"
to rave reviews. She continuedd with nightclub engagements at top New York night spots such as Dangerfield's.
Helen appeared several times on the Ed Sullivan Show and on the Jack Parr and Kate Smith TV shows.
Helen left show busines to raise her family and, when her chidren had grown, she founded
Halpin Productions on Long Island. She performed at major restaurants on Long Island such as the Swan Club,
Milleridge Inn and The Coral House. Helen and her husband have spent close to 40 summers on Cape Cod
where she is still a featured performer.
